||Gold of Africa Museum, Cape Town
How many of our holiday apartments guests know that Southern Africa was home to many gold-rich kingdoms in bygone eras? The proof of this can be seen in the magnificent displays within the Gold of Africa Museum, located in Cape Town near the V&A Waterfront
The museum houses a unique collection of 350 West African gold artifacts (originally from the Barbier-Mueller Museum in Geneva), as well as wonderful artifacts from the ancient gold civilizations of Southern Africa.
Using imaginative state-of-the-art visuals and artistic displays, Cape Town’s Gold of Africa Museum encourages visitors to glimpse the thousands of years of legend, ritual and artistry that were so much a part of the richness of Africa. As a holiday visitor at the Talia apartment, this helps you to gain vital insights into the values of the people who created these objects by understanding the symbolism that surrounds each piece.
There are also temporary exhibitions from countries as diverse as India, Brazil, Mali and Egypt which show that gold was a common theme crossing geographical borders and cultural divides.
The museum shop sells unique jewellery pieces, many of which have been crafted by the museum’s own goldsmiths who were inspired by the artifacts within the collections. So you can take back to your holiday apartment a nice reminder of ancient Africa.
